The British driver Lando Norris (McLaren) has been crowned the new Formula One World Champion after securing third place in the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, the final race of the season. The race was won by the four-time world champion, Dutchman Max Verstappen (Red Bull) at the Yas Marina circuit.
At 26 years old, Norris became the eleventh British driver to win the Formula One World Championship, succeeding Verstappen, who had won the previous four titles. In the race held in the capital of the United Arab Emirates, Norris's teammate, Australian Oscar Piastri, finished second, while another Spaniard, two-time world champion Fernando Alonso (Aston Martin), crossed the line in sixth.
The other Spanish driver, Carlos Sainz (Williams), finished thirteenth. Argentine Franco Colapinto (Alpine) ended the day in twentieth position. With this victory, Verstappen claimed his eighth win of the season and the seventy-first of his F1 career.
Outside the points, Lewis Hamilton (Ferrari) finished eighth, while Nico Hülkenberg (Kick Sauber) staged the day's best comeback, advancing nine positions to finish ninth.
